Infertility
A couple is traditionally diagnosed with infertility when they have been unable to conceive a pregnancy after 12 months of unprotected intercourse.
This definition may however change if a woman is aged over 35 or if a male is more than five years older than his partner of 35 years or knows that he has a low or absent sperm count.
What is infertility?
Sometimes a woman may know that she has a condition which increases the risk of infertility – such as endometriosis, not ovulating well or regularly, having reduced number of eggs in the ovary, having had past illness which predisposes to tubal disease. Therefore waiting 12 months is not always appropriate. One in every six Australian couples being affected with infertility, so you’re not alone.

Male infertility
Abnormalities of male reproduction contribute to at least 30% of all infertility and possibly more. A common reason why a male is infertile is due to the abnormalities of sperm.
